Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau (SECB) recently conducted a
workshop in Riyadh to introduce the new policies and procedures for
holding consumer exhibitions.
Classed as business events, the number of consumer exhibitions is
expected to reach more than 150 annually, according to SECB Executive
Director Eng. Tariq Al Essa. The workshop was strongly attended by
organisers who took the chance to review and discuss the new
regulations, which were approved by SECB’s Supervisory Committee under
the leadership of HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President
of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) and Chairman of
the SECB Supervisory Committee.
“The consumer exhibition category is being developed by SECB as an
effective means for introducing national products to the country’s
citizens and residents, as well as supporting national tourism and the
country’s economy,” said Al Essa.
“The new policies and procedures have come following a review of
international best practices and after conducting an intensive
evaluation with all relevant government agencies. In addition, the
regulations were reviewed by the SECB Advisory Committee, which consists
of representatives from the kingdom’s largest convention and exhibition
organising companies.”
It’s hoped the new policies will enable organisers to promote their capabilities and develop their business.
“The new policies will provide a framework for exhibition organisers
to increase the number of viable and sustainable exhibitions, while
providing employment opportunities for the country’s citizens,” said Al
Essa. “Moreover, these types of exhibitions are expected to support the
development of domestic tourism throughout the kingdom.”
